Creating Your College Recruiting Plan

Part 1 of the Rules of Recruiting Series

College recruiting can be overwhelming. We’re teaming up with NCSA to give parents & student-athletes the resources they need to navigate the recruiting process with confidence. Get a head start by setting up your free Recruiting Profile.

Step 1: Level Set

First things first – are you good enough to play in college? There’s more to it than just athletic ability. You’ll also need to understand the commitment and the planning that goes into playing your sport at each division level. Division 1 athletes spending 80+ hours a week on athletics and academics! If that’s too steep of a commitment for you, a lower division level may be a better fit.

Step 2: Put Together Your Timeline

Recruiting can start as early as middle school, but what’s most important is having a clear plan in place, no matter what grade you’re in. When you plan ahead and stay on top of recruiting tasks, you can get a leg up on the competition.

Step 3: Expand Your Athletic Resumé

Playing on club teams and participating in combines and tournaments makes you a more attractive prospect to college coaches. Over 85% of female and 83% of male collegiate athletes have played their sport at a club level.

Setup Your NCSA Recruiting Profile

Start building your NCSA profile. It’s never too early to get on college coaches’ radars. Once you create your NCSA profile, make sure you are regularly updating it, so coaches only see your most current athletic and academic stats, achievements and more. Consider it your athletic recruiting resume.
