April Webstats: Getting Creative

April showers bring new fresh faces to the VNN Top 100! This month we welcomed some familiar faces to the top 10 that have been biding their time to shine. With spring sports come weather delays and our partners know all the well how important it is to get information out when thunder strikes. Using the VNN Alerts option is a sure fire way to get information out to your subscribers at a moments notice.
James Hubert High School (MD) Lady Lacrosse
First to be welcomed back to our top 10 is James Hubert High School who didn’t let stormy weather get in their way when it came to posting incredible photos of their spring sports. Above you can see the rough and tough glare during the April 19th, junior varsity match against Damascus High School. This particular photo gallery generated 1,628 page views alone for the Bengals! Great job JHHS!

North Dallas (TX) Alumni/JROTC
As summer approaches and spring sports come to a close, what should schools be posting? While North Dallas High School may not have any sports in season right now, their website master Gary Pina, Class of 1974, has not let up on posting great content to the site. After speaking with Gary this week he said that even though the sports are done for spring there are always stories to tell!
North Dallas has adopted writing a custom article for each and every event, telling the story of the game rather than just posting a score. A great example is this one, covering the regular season finale for Bulldog’s Varsity Baseball. Gary let us know that he doesn’t do it all alone, it is a team effort to make sure the site is in tip top shape. His efforts are amplified by four other alumni, who work regularly on the site to make sure current students and fans have up-to-the-minute scores and photos from last night’s game, and that past students can keep up with the events at North Dallas High School.
Although North Dallas could be considered a smaller school, approximately 1,000 students, they make an impact in their community by connecting their community to every event through their platform. Just last month NDHS held a Military Ball for their Junior ROTC program unit, which is #1 in their intermediate school district. This photo gallery alone raked in 6,755 pageviews of the stunning event.

Valley Center (KS) Fine Arts
During the Summer, Valley Center High School has taken to a similar tactic as North Dallas by highlighting more activity competitions and sports-inspired events during the slower months. For example, last month’s ‘Art Day,’ which invited high schools from across the area to submit up to 40 pieces of art to display in the showcase. They also held Fine Arts Signing Day, where upperclassmen signed to continue their passion at the next level in a similar way to Athletics’ National Signing Day.
