April 6th is National STUDENT-Athlete Day!

April 6th is a special day for student-athletes across the United States. It’s National STUDENT-Athlete Day – a day designed to recognize the outstanding achievements of high school and college student-athletes who have excelled in both academics and athletics – while also making significant contributions to their schools and communities.

National Student Athlete Day was created in 1987 by the Institute for Sport & Social Justice (formerly known as the National Consortium for Academics & Sports) as a way to honor student-athletes who have achieved academic and athletic excellence. The day has since become an annual celebration that recognizes the efforts of nearly 8 million student-athletes who compete in team and individual sports across the United States, with more than 500,000 taking their careers to the college level.

One of the unique aspects of National Student Athlete Day is its focus on student-athletes who have made a positive impact on their communities. In addition to recognizing academic and athletic achievement, the day also honors student-athletes who have given back to their schools and local communities, all while maintaining GPAs of 3.0 or higher.

Each year, National Student Athlete Day celebration events take place on campuses nationwide. These events provide an opportunity for student-athletes, coaches, parents, and educators to come together to celebrate the achievements of student-athletes and to recognize their contributions to their schools and communities.

National Student Athlete Day has recognized more than 4.4 million student-athletes since 1987. Know a student worthy of being honored? Nominate them for the STUDENT-Athlete Award!
