Hot shooting helps South Christian (MI) set up title game with GR Catholic Central
Earlier this year, we put the spotlight on South Christian (MI)’s boys basketball team, who with an average height of 6’4″ aimed to make a run at the MHSAA (Michigan) state title.
This week, we saw that the predictions were right — the Sailors, lead by hot-shooting Luke Schrotenboer, set up a Regional Title game tonight versus Grand Rapids Catholic Central, with a bid to the Michigan State Breslin Center on the line.
Lebanon and Boone County, Indiana, Unite Around Sports
The community of Lebanon, Indiana and surrounding Boone County have had a trying week. Early Thursday AM 03/02, Western Boone Junior-Senior High School senior Sydney Foster was killed in a car accident. Hours later, Lebanon City Councilman Jeremy Lamar was found dead, and Friday night Sheriff’s deputy Jacob Pickett was fatally shot in the line of duty.
As the community’s population of 16,000 heals, lebanonathletics.com posted a touching point-of-view from IndyStar writer Holly Hays as she made sense of the past week and reflected on the power of community at the Sectional 25 semifinal basketball game between Lebanon and South Montgomery.

White House (TN) Middle School Student performs national anthem at SEC Tournament
White House Middle School (TN) student Ava Hurst performed the National Anthemat this week’s Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Ava has performed at several places locally including Vanderbilt University and White House High School basketball.

Corner Canyon (UT) Cheerleading Wins UCA National Title
A few weeks back, we reported on the cheer team at Fishers (IN) winning the UCA’s Varsity Large Division National Title. And this week, we got word of more good news for our network’s cheer programs- Corner Canyon (UT) also took home hardware at the national competition, winning the Small Varsity Division I.

Sandy Valley (OH) Cardinal Karlee Altimore Sets Single-Season Scoring Record
With Wednesday February 21st’s 26 point game against Union Local to close out the season, Sandy Valley (OH) Sophomore Karlee Altimore broke the single-season scoring record for the Cardinals with 397, last set during the 1979-80 season.

ML King (CA) Freshman debuts for the Wolves with a win
At this week’s Martin Luther King (CA) High’s home golf tournament, the Wolves took 5th of 15 teams, shooting a 423. The big story of the day was Freshman Johnny Walker, who won the tournament shooting a 1 under par 71 to become the first King player to win the tournament since it’s inaugural year 12 years ago in his long awaited high school debut, beating out a Cal-Poly recruit on the final hole.

North Forsyth (GA) Girls Basketball beats Hillgrove to reach GHSA State Final Four
After beating Hillgrove in the GHSA Elite Eight, the Lady Raiders of North Forsyth advance to the Final Four in Buford, Georgia versus Westlake. The game tips off tomorrow at 6pm Eastern following a community-led send-off and police-escorted caravan for the girls.

Ramona Girls Soccer (CA) advances to first ever CIF Finals today
In Coach Steve Purvis’ 1st Year as Head Coach, the Ramona Girls Soccer Team is heading to La Jolla High School for their first-ever CIF State Finals appearance after upsetting Division 4’s #1 ranked team in the semi-finals, Castle Park.
Kickoff is today, Saturday March 3rd at 11am Pacific Time. Let’s go Bulldogs!
John Curtis Patriots (LA) Baseball out to a fast 5-1 start
Six games into the 2018 Louisiana baseball season, the John Curtis Patriots are 5-1. It hasn’t been an easy road, however, winning three 1-run games and two 2-run games during the stretch. The Patriots lone loss was to Catholic (BR), who the Patriots usurped in last year’s Division I state championship.
Legendary Mishawaka (IN) coach Ron Hecklinski creates inaugural "Organ Donation Night
21 years ago, Mishawaka Caveman (IN) head coach Ron Hecklinski got a liver transplant that saved his life. Since then, the legendary Indiana coach (who has coached in the McDonald’s All-Star Game) has been a major advocate in sports for organ donation as a way to save lives. February 16th, the community held its inaugural “Organ Donation Night” where Hecklinski to shared his powerful story.

Arundel (MD) promotes Jack Walsh to Head Football Coach
It wouldn’t be late February without news of new head coaches. Around the network we saw several, including Arundel (MD) offensive line coach Jack Walsh becoming head coach for the Wildcats, Maconaquah (IN) hiring Football Coach Jack Colby from Kokomo, and Lebanon (IN)’s hiring of three coaches in cheerleading, tennis, and soccer.
