April Webstats: Getting Creative
April showers bring new fresh faces to the VNN Top 100! This month we welcomed some familiar faces to the top 10 that have been biding their time to shine. With spring sports come weather delays and our partners know all the well how important it is to get information out when thunder strikes. Using the VNN Alerts option is a sure fire way to get information out to your subscribers at a moments notice.
James Hubert High School (MD) → Lady Lacrosse
First to be welcomed back to our top 10 is James Hubert High School who didn’t let stormy weather get in their way when it came to posting incredible photos of their spring sports. Above you can see the rough and tough glare during the April 19th, junior varsity match against Damascus High School. This particular photo gallery generated 1,628 page views alone for the Bengals! Great job JHHS!
North Dallas (TX) → Alumni/JROTC
As summer approaches and spring sports come to a close, what should schools be posting? While North Dallas High School may not have any sports in season right now, their website master Gary Pina, Class of 1974, has not let up on posting great content to the site. After speaking with Gary this week he said that even though the sports are done for spring there are always stories to tell!
North Dallas has adopted writing a custom article for each and every event, telling the story of the game rather than just posting a score. A great example is this one, covering the regular season finale for Bulldog’s Varsity Baseball. Gary let us know that he doesn’t do it all alone, it is a team effort to make sure the site is in tip top shape. His efforts are amplified by four other alumni, who work regularly on the site to make sure current students and fans have up-to-the-minute scores and photos from last night’s game, and that past students can keep up with the events at North Dallas High School.
Although North Dallas could be considered a smaller school, approximately 1,000 students, they make an impact in their community by connecting their community to every event through their platform. Just last month NDHS held a Military Ball for their Junior ROTC program unit, which is #1 in their intermediate school district. This photo gallery alone raked in 6,755 pageviews of the stunning event.
Valley Center (KS) Fine Arts
During the Summer, Valley Center High School has taken to a similar tactic as North Dallas by highlighting more activity competitions and sports-inspired events during the slower months. For example, last month’s ‘Art Day,’ which invited high schools from across the area to submit up to 40 pieces of art to display in the showcase. They also held Fine Arts Signing Day, where upperclassmen signed to continue their passion at the next level in a similar way to Athletics’ National Signing Day.
Honorable Mention: Dock Mennonite Academy (PA), Hamilton Southeastern High School (IN), Arundel High School (MD), Sherwood High School (MD)

How Whittier Christian's Cheer Team Raised $160 — In Just a Week
La Habra, CA — Going to a college football bowl game can be expensive. Sending your entire cheer team to perform at a college football bowl game is downright exorbitant.
This is the cost facing the families of Whittier Christian’s Cheer team this year as the squad prepares to perform at this year’s Holiday Bowl and has left cheer advisor Pam Butler looking for ways to ease this financial burden. When she heard about our recently launched shop-raising feature, she knew this was a new way that they could raise funds for the upcoming Holiday Bowl trip.
To get started, Pam booked a call with one of our fundraising coaches to learn the ropes of her new shop-raiser. “My fundraising coach Adam was super helpful — he showed me the different features of the software and the best ways to get started.” To get everyone on board, Pam contacted all the team parents and tasked each one of them with inviting ten others to shop on behalf of their cheer team. Says Pam, “I encouraged everyone to get on there and start with purchasing something small, like a Starbucks gift card. Within a week we had already raised over $160 and have more than 25 people join our team.”
Do you want to help your teams raise money as fast as Pam’s? Send your coaches to the links below to create their own shop-raiser and book their call with a fundraising coach:

GRAND RAPIDS, MI, MAY 2018- VNN, America’s largest and fastest growing high school sports communication platform, has signed a partnership with 8to18 Media Inc, the Illinois-based developer of professional athletic management software and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association’s (NIAAA) recommended technology vendor. The deal, already touching over 20% of the US high school sports market, will connect key planning and administrative functions from 8to18’s digital scheduling and registration products to VNN’s SportsHub communications platform.
Each year at the high school level, nearly 8 million student-athletes play up to 20 games per season making registration and scheduling two of the most essential tasks athletic directors and their coaches administer each school year. The integration between 8to18 and VNN will bring these functions together seamlessly, ensuring professionals have the tools they need in one place while also providing opportunities to grow their programs through advertising, e-commerce, and fundraising.
“Each year, expectations of our athletic and activity departments seem to mount while budgets are cut,” said 8to18’s Director of Partnerships, Abigail Emerson. “It’s become impossible to manage these programs successfully, much less grow them, without effective integrated tools, like 8to18’s scheduling and online registration. For over 20 years, we’ve remained steadfast in our mission, working with administrators and coaches to develop premium solutions to keep these programs flourishing. This partnership with VNN allows organizations to combine 8to18’s best in class administrative solutions with VNN’s premium website and communication platform.”
“Our user experience team spends a large part of their day understanding the different needs athletic professionals have,” said VNN Director of Partnerships Jayson Jones. “Again and again, we see just how critical scheduling and logistics software is to building a great athletic department, and 8to18’s commitment to provide exactly what office staff is looking for in those services was a perfect fit to help us make the experience of high school sports better for everyone involved.”
