AUSTIN, TX, OCTOBER 2018- San Marcos’ Eliana Hernandez has had a whirlwind month. Winning the Pflugerville Invitational, captaining the Varsity Cross Country team, placing top 10 in four of her past five races, it’s no surprise that her hard work is garnering attention from greater Central Texas. The same can be said for Academy’s Jaylin McWilliams (Little River), who scored three touchdowns and tallied 130 yards on special team returns for the Bees. The two join a prestigious list of other star athletes from across the region competing to be crowned this month’s A+ Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Month.
The competition, launching across the Austin-Waco area, is a collaboration between A+FCU and high school sports marketing firm VNN, taking place in 26 local high school communities including Akins, Belton, Lanier, and McCallum across their official athletics websites and social media channels. Nominations are submitted by each school’s athletic director, celebrating the athletes they feel demonstrate standout performances in athletic ability, sportsmanship, and leadership.
We’re so excited to sponsor the new Athlete of the Month in Central Texas to continue our commitment to our schools,” said Kerry Parker, A+FCU CEO. “Through this competition, we hope to continue building relationships with communities around us and highlight student athlete accomplishments.
VNN’s mission is to transform local communities by celebrating their school sports,” said VNN Account Manager Paul Dunteman. “Now in our second year connecting A+FCU to the local communities they service everyday, we’re excited to grow our relationship with such a like-minded company and realize that mission.
